Thanksgiving is fast approaching so I thought I’d share a few memories and my quick cranberry relish recipe with you.

Cranberry Relish

2 cans whole berry cranberry sauce

1 can mandarin oranges in water, drained

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 6oz package chopped pecans

Optional: Fresh lemon zest.

Combine all ingredients, cover and chill. Serve with turkey, ham, game or chicken.

My Grandpa Stump loved fresh game birds for the holidays. YUCK! My relish can be served with that but… why? Grandma Dorothy loved gooseberry pie, that’s another – Yuck. The funny part is my kids say the same thing about my cranberry relish – Yuck! My aunt Jackie was famous for her Seafoam/Divinity candy. She would cover the kitchen with those little white clouds at Christmastime. Good stuff! My mom made the world’s best FUDGE! Mine has never even come close to hers and I have her recipe written in her own hand, so it must be me, right. It’s just the chef in me that knows the difference, I guess. The holidays always seem to revolve around food, for me anyway.

I remember arguing with Grandpa Stump about not eating the edge of the pie crust; and I quote, “My mom said, “If you don’t eat the crust you don’t get the pie.” well okay… and why he peppered his melons. Oh and by the way, I hate strawberry-rhubarb pie!

Grandma Phebie always sipped her coffee out of the saucer. She would pour it out if the cup and into the saucer. I guess these are things I’m always talking about; the little things we remember the most about a person when they are gone.

I just realized that I need a post to put my notes; to organize lists, projects and life in general. If you’d like to leave a question or comment on any post,  you will need to click the top “Post Header” of the blog article you would like to comment on and it will take you to that screen.

If you want to ask me a quick genealogy question here is the post to do that!
