Hi
I accidentally came across this site while looking for a Middletown collector’s plate. I saw Edith Marie Metcalf and was interested….The person you are writing about and you do have part of it right is Ethel Marie Metcalf. I know you know this and just typed the wrong thing so you may want to change it. Ethel’s moms name was Allie Alberta. I am one of Ethel’s nieces on her side of the family. My name is Barbara and I am Virgie’s daughter (Ethel’s sister) I was disappointed that there was no normal obituary in the paper listing the kids and other relatives names. They didn’t do it because it was too expensive. Your name is Sheila, who’s child were you?

Dear Barbara,
Hi, I’m the wife of her nephew, Anthony. We were unable to attend the funeral because of work, but I had her mother listed as was Allie Alberta for many years on my tree, but her name is listed that way on her death certificate. See:
Ohio Deaths, 1908-1932, 1938-1944, and 1958-2007
about Alberte Lamb
Name: Alberte Lamb
Death Date: 17 May 1942
City of Death: Dayton
County of Death: Montgomery
So, I just made the change to Alberte the other day. It had always been Alberta on my tree, until I found her record, I guess, it was the way the family spelled it. So I made that correction. I’d like to see the headstone to clarify it.
I too was hoping for a full obit, it would have helped me, as a genealogist, with the kids spouses things I do have all of her kids names from family members but not their birth dates, marriages, excreta.
I had been meaning to contact one of the children, about it, I just hadn’t had a chance. My brother-in-law John called one of his cousins and got the funeral information, I think that had been changed as well, but we still weren’t able to attend. However, I did sign the guest-book at the Journal and wished the family our sincere condolences.
Thank you for your comment and I hope to get a chance to talk to you real soon, please feel free to call me/us with anything you’d like to add.
Best Wishes,
Sheila Jean Adkins Metcalf

Hi
I didn’t know you had answered until I happened on this site again. I will save it this time.
Is your husband one of Willie’s kids?
I don’t have the Ancestry membership to get into the birth record of grandma. But mom said it was really Alberta. My mom had done the Lamb side of the family so she has all of Ethel’s kids information. I will try to get it for you if you want it. Barbara

Dear Barbara,
Yes, my husband is Anthony, William Cecil “Willie”‘s son. I don’t call him Willie, since my dad’s name was Willie, it made for to much confusion.
But I can change it back if you’d prefer. Like I said that was from her death certificate and knowing how people had always pronounced my Grandma Elvie’s actually spelled Elvia and my aunt Sylvie instead of Sylvia. I didn’t even question it. I just changed it to make it match her death certificate.
Thanks as always,
Sheila Jean Adkins Metcalf
