I am researching the ADKINS family. Have gotten as far back as JOSEPH ADKINS, who lived in South Dakota. My information suggests that he died in June 1860. My husband is a descent of John Connelly Adkins, whose family was in the banking business in Madison, South Dakota, but moved to Norfolk, Nebraska after the Depression. Joseph married ELIZABETH CONNELLY. His sons were GEORGE BUCHANAN, ENOCH, FRANCIS MARION, JOHN CONNELLY, LOUIS, and THOMAS JEFFERSON ADKINS. One daughter, LOUSIA M. ADKINS. Our branch traced from JOHN CONNELLY ADKINS to present. Other names in the Adkins family tree include: PENDLETON, BORAH, CHAMBERLAIN, HAMMER,TISDALE, WILBORE (WILBUR), BRITTON, CONNELLY (CONLEY), HASKINS, LEONARD, McKINNEY, NORTHRUP, RANDALL and VAN ZANT (About 1600 names).
I am also researching my own family name, LAKEY. My father, Andy Lee Chester LAKEY, was born in Mountain Home, AR on March 15, 1905. His mother’s name was Mary Martha Cobb and she married Simon LAKEY when she was very young. My father moved from Arkansas to Kansas City, Missouri in 1924. He died there in 1972. He married Eunice Mae DANNER, and they had 7 children. Carrie, Jack, Elsie, Andy, Jr., Roberta, Linda and Thomas Joseph.
Other family names include: COBB, DANNER, HADLEY, and SHADE.
