1 lb. (.45 kg) lean ground beef (chuck)
1 garlic clove
1 carrot
1 stalk celery
1/2 medium onion
1/4 green pepper
1 (8 oz. – 226 g) can tomato sauce
1 (29 oz. – 851 kg) can pork and beans
3 Tbsp.(45 ml) brown sugar or molasses
2 slices bacon

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit or 164 degrees Celsius.
  2. Lightly brown ground beef and drain off excess fat.
  3. In the blender; place garlic clove, chunks of carrot, celery, onion, green pepper and tomato sauce. Blend at medium speed until pureed.
  4. Combine meat and tomato mixture with beans, brown sugar or molasses and chopped bacon in casserole.
  5. Bake for 1 hour or until bubbly.
  6. Serve with hot bread and relishes.
