I am thankful to have found this entry. I now know how Blue Sky ties into my family tree. Thank you so much!

My father is Robert Sherman Watts. My grandfather was Christopher
Columbus “Chris” Watts Jr. He was born March 27 1927. His parents were Christopher Columbus Watts Sr and Idona Clark. He passed November 4 2006. His obituary is located at
http://www.timeformemory.com/fh_obituary.cfm?obitid=26712&fhid=17&locationid=17 and at http://web.mountain.net/WCGHS/obit1106.htm I am trying to find out my family history. My parents divorced when I was young, and I
didn’t see my father’s family to learn my heritage. I have found out that I might be related to Blue Sky Cornstalk, but is there any proof? I am confused! Some say Mary Fry others Mary Adkins.
Any help would be appreciated

Dear Janine,
Thank you for your comment and I must apologize that your comment was caught up in the spam que due to the inserted links. If you post more than one link please do so in two separate comments so it doesn’t hold it up in the que. I have approved this comment and thank you for adding it.
Now for your question, you have hit upon one topic that has been hashed and rehashed for many decades. Mostly because of the amount of known Parker Adkins(es) and Richard Parker’s. LOL
The one in question here is the highly debated “Parker that married Mary Fry” or Mary Alexander or Mary Fry of Alexander, or around here we just call her “Mother Mary Whoevershewas or Mary Whatshername” see: https://adkinsmetcalffamily.wordpress.com/2009/03/30/jacob-harley-the-earl-of-oxford-1730-england/ and https://adkinsmetcalffamily.wordpress.com/2009/03/07/the-adkins-feud-in-on/ we have no idea what happened to Mother Mary believed to have been divorced or deceased and then… he married Blue Sky and changing her name to the Anglo Saxon name of “Mary” maybe to keep people from realizing his 1st wife was gone – merely speculation on my part. He fathered two children with her Littleberry and Charity, some say only one, which was Charity. Charity is the only child that is not in dispute.
I do empathize with your loss and respect your desire to find your heritage, as we all do here. Please take some time to read all the past Adkins family postings and comments under the category of Surname: Adkins and Parker and you’ll see what I mean by “Mary” being highly debatable.
Books have been written on this subject and authors methods have been called into question since one openly admits to fabricating a mothers name to make the book more personable. Since the author couldn’t find her true Surname; merely inserted one.
I’m not seeing where Christopher Watts was linked to the Adkins family, other than his daughters marrying into the Adkins family but since he’s from Wayne County, VA… I’m sure its in there somewhere. Can you share where or at what generation that Adkins’ ties into his tree? Grandparent maybe? If so, I can tell you the who, what when, where and why’s. Well most of them anyway.
Like I said this Parker Adkins is quite complicated to say the least but stay tuned because I’m sure it will spark many more debates before it’s all over and we can put them to rest once and for all.
Thanks again for your comment,
Sheila Jean Adkins Metcalf

Hello!! I too have traced myself to Parker V. and to BlueSky Cornstalk. You know this goes much higher into the Native American world..Bluesky’s father was Chief Hokaluska (Shawnee chief) and he was married to the daughter (Helizikinopo Ounacon-a) of Go-sa-du-isga and Moytoy “The Tellico Principal Chief” He was oft called “Pigeon”. “Pigeon” Moytoy’s father was Amatoya Moytoy II (Rainmaker) of Chota, and his wife was Quatsie Tellico “Nancy” of the Wolf Clan. The Moytoy were very high ranking Cherokee chiefs. Littleberry’s son Hezekiah had a daughter from his marriage to Nancy Spears…Vicy Adkins. Vicy Adkins married Russell Watts. Of Russell and Vicy’s children, one was Jackson VanDorn Watts…Jackson VanDorn is my grandfather. He married Mary Ellen Sweeney (Swinney). My father was Herman Lee Watts. All of my Watts relatives are in West Virginia.

Dear Mary,
You must have missed the posts on the Adkins Family Feud and/or Mithaology. LOL Please read all the posts under Surname: Adkins and Parker and I’m sure you’ll see its been covered, more than once, actually.
I do appreciate your Watts information. I have some, not sure how much, it’s been awhile since I trekked down that venue. I will check on it this week.
I would do a separate blog post on Cornstalk, but at this point it could possibly start another major Shawnee Indian uprising and none of us want to see that.
Thanks for you comment and Welcome to the Family,
Sheila Jean Adkins Metcalf

All I can add here is the reminder to Ms. Reddin and others that there were several Adkinses named “Parker”. One “Parker” s/o Millington Adkins married a “Mary Frye” … We’re still debating the relation between “Mary” and “Bluesky” … Some researchers (Adkins material on Victoria Taylor-True’s “Life in the Past Lane”) have confused the alleged wife of Parker V. Adkins (b. 1720/24) with his sister Mary (not even mentioned by Ms. True)who spent her last days (d. c. 1814) with her son Jacob at Miller’s Fork in what after 1843 became Wayne County, Virginia … This Mary’s offspring are mentioned under “Jacob Harley” elsewhere on this site …

Ooohh, didn’t realize there was so many different folks in the Parker and Blue Sky/Mary story, I guess it can get tricky….be nice to get it all tacked down, huh?? Hope we can…I like the Mary is Bluesky one, though, guess it is the romantic side of me. Sounds good, and sweet…somehow…I don’t know. As to the Surnames..Adkins, Parker you suggested I read, how do I find that? I am new to all of this blog kind of stuff and I have looked but I can’t figure it all out, can you send me a link into it? thanks a bunch!!
August 14, 2009 at 6:50 am
Some family members suggest that Bluesky took the Anglo name of Mary, others don’t believe that. I suggested that maybe it was easier than saying he had another wife, people would just assume she was his first and not question it but that didn’t go over too well. lol I just threw it out there. But to read it all go to Index of Articles :: Select Category :: Genealogy :: Surname :: Adkins or Parker and Click – then they will appear, you’ll just have to scroll through and read them all. Or just type in Bluesky or Parker or whatever, in the Search and see what comes up, but you’ll probably miss something if you do it that way. But it’s a start. You can type in “Feud” or “Oxford” and get some of the main ones.
I guess I should go ahead a spend a day or two writing a post on Cornstalk, if I can find a few extra moments. lol I wish someone else would write it “GRIN” lol – email it to me and I can just post that – but that would be the “Lazy Way”. No rest for the weary.
Good luck and should you have anymore questions or comments, please feel free to add them.
Thanks as always,
Sheila Jean Adkins Metcalf

red:
We are working on a non-commercial project of our family for our kids and grandkids. We can show that my wife (Sandra (Lewis) Kenny) is a direct lineal descendent of the children of George Peter Fry and Keziah Fry. We have found various, but as yet undocumented, reports that Keziah was an Adkins. This is the same woman referenced by Sheila in Note 58. Various individuakls have carried her as a Maars, Mallory or Mowerie rather than an Adkins. Some have suggested that “Mallory” was a middle name or a prior married name.
Because we apparently share with you an affinity for documentation, before reaching any conclusion in this respect, we continued to develop this line. For that purpose, we contacted Ronnie Adkins who has authored an extensive book on the Adkins from Beechfork, with William V Adkinson as progenitor. Becise of the numerous connections we also sought the assistance of the Fry’s who authored another book about that family.
In his book, Ronnie Adkins alluded to Keziah, but did not identify her as a child of Parker Adkins and Mary _______. However, I had found a webpage purporting to be from Ronnie in which he (or whoever put the info in the net in his name) indicated that he was considering a second book and suggesting that he had discovered new information which included a conclusion that Keziah was an Adkins. He has not written a second book as yet.
Therefore we contacted him by phone and in writing, finding him to be quite cooperative and very forthcoming. In one response he wrote in pertinent part……….
“At the time the book was being finished all researchers were carrying Kiziah as a Mallory. Records, found just before the book came out, were starting to prove she was an Adkins. Clinton Mays found her tombstone-Page XXI-at Beech Fork. It is in the oldest cemetery in Wayne County. Then when the Fry book came out there was more proof. There is no doubt that Kiziah is a daughter of Parker and Mary. After her husband died she left Giles County and came to Wayne County settling amongst all the Adkins, I felt there just had to be a connection-her brother, Millington, married George’s sister, Mary.”
We had seen the photo of the headstone in his book, but not being satisfied, we further we indicated our desire to obtain(and wwhether he could identify for us) the records that you are alluding to in the first paragraph of the excerpt or otherwise exist evidencing that she was an Adkins.
We also noted that if Keziah were an Adkins, then her daughter Susanah married her first cousin (the son of Hezekiah)not necessarily unusual but not ordinary either — even at this time.
Ronnie responded again as follows:
”’ Re: Kiziah “Adkins” From: ronmar (ronmar@knology.net) Sent: Tue 7/22/08 11:05 AM To: Timothy Kenny (timothy_kenny@hotmail.com)
Timothy, As far as I know there are no records proving Kiziah an Adkins or any other maiden name. When I started work on the book I assumed that anyone doing research on a particular family would only put out what was proven. An old researcher in Virginia was carrying Kiziah as a Mallory. When I spoke to him, it turned out he had zero proof. As you know the records of women were not kept as well as those of men. Lots of reasons for this-the man was legally responsible, he owned the possessions, etc..However, I am 99% convinced that Elizabeth[married Thomas Childers} and Kiziah were children of Parker and Mary. Their birth dates fit perfectly with the other children of Parker. Both came to the Cabell/Wayne area same as Parker’s other children. Kiziah came after husband died and settled among all the other Adkins. She bought land from Jesse Adkins andshe is buried in a cemetery that is the oldest and was primarily an Adkins cemetery. As to Elias and Susanna being first cousins-this happened a lot. The folks lived on the frontier and when their kids were grown up everyone in miles were related. I have never done any family in depth that that there were not first cousin marriages. Ronnie”
In the Fry book, the authors shed a bit more light. They note references to various family related land ttransactions, relationships between the parents of Kiziah and her husband (as contemporaries and soldiers), her burial near Hezekiah and bordering Littleberry’s farm. The relationship of Littleberry’s children to her children. They also note that the 1911 DAR application of a woman named Fletcher which indicates her ancestral ties to George Fry who married a Keziah Mallory through their son, Louis. That George died in Kentucky. The Fry’s note that none of the George’s in this area had a son named Louis and none are known to have been had a son named Louis. Their conclusion, which wuld seem accurate, was that this is a different family.
We want to be painstaking in our documentation since we want to eliminate as best possible any misconceptions or mis-interpretations in the project for our kids. We simply don’t want to re-invent history. Once again, your help and thoughts are greatfully appreciated. Do you have any added information in respect to this arm of the Adkins family?
As an aside, we have been in touch on several occasions with Waunita Powell, whose work you reference in note 58. She is an aging, somewhat difficult person to deal with, cantankerous with her age, and tired of defending her work. She is quite forthcoming, and while tired of the indivuals harranging her over her conclusions, was generous with her time and has sent us many of her notes and documents. It is interesting that both Douglas Richardson and Robert Boyd have acknowledged and accepted her concusions in their most recent works related to the ancestry back to Katherine Bullar.
Tim Kenny Says:

One additional matter. While until fairly recent times, the Battle of Point Pleasant was considered the first battle of the Revolutionary War, it is my understanding that it is no longer regarded as part of that war at all, but at best an end to the French and Indian War, everywhere that is except in West Virginia. Can anyone shed a light on that. For example, while the DAR originally championed the event for that purpose, it no longer supports that conclusion and hasn’t for an extended period. What does that do for those whose membership in the DAR inured from that battle, such as the George Frys and the Parker Adkins.

I am looking for information on my ancestor, John Adkins(1755-1790), son of Mary Adkins. My part of the family tree have had John born 1755, died 1790, father of Jemima “Nina” Adkins. He and his wife Mahalia(unknown)were both killed in 1790. Their daughter, my manygreatsgrandmother ended up in Fentress, TN. In searching for what tragedy could have taken her parents at such a young age I came across the story of the deaths of Owen Adkins and his family in the Watauga Settlement in that same year, 1790. Looking into it further I found the names of John, Ownen and William Adkins, along with Gabriel, William and John Goad (possibly brothers of Owen’s wife Agnes)on a petition to the State of NC for the State of Franklin. With this information in hand I went to a family member who has been studying the family for years and she placed my John as the son of Mary who apparently history had lost track of. I wasn’t able to navigate around your site because I’m not very computer savvy. So I don’t know how to find what is already known about John, but I haven’t been able to find anyone who knows much about him. I have seen the accounts of the death of his cousin Owen and his family.
I would love to know who his wife Mahalia was if any one has that information. And I have more about Owen and John’s descendants.

Hello Sheila! First of all, thank you so much for this incredible website! I am just beginning research on my family and wanted to see if I am on the right track with my Adkins line. The first Adkins in my line is Synthia (Cynthia) Adkins b. 1813; m. to Stephen Bartram in 1830; d. 1888. I have her parents as Jesse Adkins and Nancy Adkins – Jesse’s parents being Littleberry Adkins (b. 1767) and Nancy Anna Adkins (b. 1767). I have conflicting information on Nancy Anna Adkins’ parents. Parents of Littleberry being Parker (b. 1720) and Mary Polly Parker. Parents of Parker being William Adkins & Elizabeth Parker. I’m begging you to see if I have strayed down a wrong path! I am lucky enough to live in Richmond and the Library of Virginia has a lot of county record information. I will be heading there one day this week and will be working on this line as well as lots of others. I just wanted to know if you could let me know if I am headed in the right direction! And to say hello to a possible relative!! Thanks so much!!!

This is a great website. I am also a descendant of Parker Adkins. Is there anyone who can help me find parents of John Johnson who married Rosanna Adkins in TN in 1825. She was the daughter of Richard Adkins and grand-daughter of Elijah Adkins. Thanks.
September 22, 2011 at 10:14 am
Hello. I just came across this sight. I am researching my family tree. I am from the Frye family. My tree shows I am related to Parker V. Adkins also. Our tree shows Mary Bluesky as Mary Polly Fry. It shows her parents as being John Peter Fry (1692 England) and Catherine French Fry (1692 England). Children: George Fry 1725 Orange, Virginia and Mary Polly Fry 1730 Virginia. I also figured out she was Mary Bluesky. My niece had did a lot of research and had told me about one of our ancestors taking a child from an Indian Chief. She Said Chief Cornstalk. So Mary Molly Fry (Frye) is Mary Bluesky Cornstalk raised by John Peter Frye and Catherine French Frye. Then married Parker V. Adkins according to our tree.
Thank you,
Goldie (Libby) Frye Fairchild
September 22, 2011 at 9:13 pm
Dear Goldie,
The Frye is a huge mistake, according to the Shawnee, Parker Vincent Adkins son of William & Elizabeth married Mary Polly Jones. Then he married Mary Blue Sky Cornstalk. Niehter women were Fry’s – Frye’s. Mary has always been of Surname Cornstalk. Daughter of Keigh-taugh-quah Hokoleskwa Cornstalk see: https://adkinsmetcalffamily.wordpress.com/2010/10/11/cornstalk/. She married Parker after the death of his first wife Mitha, Mitha being the daughter of Chief Straight Tail.
I have:
Mary Polly Alexander-Fry (Born: 1730-1777) – this is wrong. I need to fix it.
Mary Fry (1755-1786) married Millington Militan.
Mary Fry (1788-1850) was the daughter of George Fry & Keziah Adkins Fry. Mary Polly Fry (1836) was the daughter of David Daniel Fry & Christena Adkins.
Mary Fry (1881) d/o Berry Fry & Arnetta Johnson.
There may be more, just not on my tree.
Hope this helps,
Sheila Jean Adkins Metcalf

I am still researching my ancestors and am now back to the Adkins. You generously helped me by giving me some names and places to research. We are now planning a trip back east and I hope to look further into my Adkins family. I was looking for Rosanna Monroe Adkins, daughter of Richard Adkins and granddaughter of Eliijah. I cannot find your reply. IF you could send it again I would be grateful. I am sorry to waste your time.

Shelia in your reply to Goldie you say “She married Parker after the death of his first wife Mitha, Mitha being the daughter of Chief Straight Tail.” Really? I think you should take time to digest some of the facts before you try to teach them yourself. Parker was NOT married to Mitha. Mitha was his GRANDMOTHER, the mother of Elizabeth Parker. To all who have read the erroneous statements above, please do your own research and document, document DOCUMENT!
March 19, 2012 at 8:06 am
Deb,
You’re right, I misspoke in the comment to Goldie in this one line. *[She married Parker after the death of his first wife Mitha, Mitha being the daughter of Chief Straight Tail.] I’m sure she caught it as well, but thank you for pointing it out.
I’m not teaching anything here, just sharing my thoughts, as each person that comes to the blog, as stated all over my blog.
Its so easy to make a mistake, as you have many times with my name or spelling, but I can’t change a comment unless its current – as I did the last time you posted. I only corrected your [highlighted in red] spelling mistakes then approved it from the comment spam query, it was deemed spam as for the links you shared, but I approved it, so that it would show on the blog.
Thank you for caring enough to share.
As Always,

You’re always welcome to email me. My email address is vvsfan@msn.com. Although, I choose to do most of it on the blog so that we all have the same information.
You’ll have to read all of the info on Mary aka Polly Jones/Frye or various other Surnames. The families are split between the two. That’s where the split begins. I let each descendant/member decide which path to take.
As always, thank you for your comment.

FY: While researching the Fry family of Montgomery/Giles Co. Va several years ago I came across two Atkins depositions in the Augusta Co Case Fry vs Fry.
Parker Atkins Sr. deposed in Montgomery Co Va, 17 June 1805. and Parker Atkins Jr. deposed in Montgomery Co. Ohio 4 Feb 1805. Both related to the same case.
So seems that Parker Sr didn’t die in 1792 and he must have had a son Parker Jr.

Hello! I’ve been reading the blog for awhile. I see this thread stopped commenting some time ago.
I have not had any luck with verifying that Elijah Adkins is the son of Parker Adkins and his 1st wife, Mary Whatsherface.
My connection and work that I have verified to date (my aunt’s records) with the Adkins is:
Paternal GGM: Nettie Adkins. Born: 27 Oct 1899, TN, Died 7 Jun 1978, TN.
1st marriage: 7 Jun 1913 to my GGF William Lee Halk Humphrey
(aka Lee) Nettie was 13 when she married.
2nd marriage: Owen Brock (date unknown)
GGGF: Melton Adkins. Born: 01 Nov 1843,TN, Died: 22MAR1943,
Lake City, TN (he almost made it to 100!)
3x’sGGF: Lewis (Louis) Adkins. Born: 1822, TN, Died: 20 Apr 1895,
TN. His birth year is approximate.
4x’sGGF: Richard Adkins. Born: 1788 Montgomery County, VA,
Died: 1836, Grainger (County), TN.
5x’sGGF: Elijah Adkins. Born: 1768 Montgomery County, VA,
Died: 1840 (ish), Anderson, County, TN.
I have seen trees that include Elijah as a child of Parker Adkins and one of his wives. I’ve seen more that do not include him. I am an auditor by trade, so I suppose that’s why I am not satisfied until I see proof or have solid confirmation for myself. :) My aunt worked on our ancestry for several decades before she passed away, and had extensive notes that I am trying to track down. Does anyone have a source for the connection with Elijah and Parker? Was he really the father? Any help is appreciated :)
I know there’s mistakes out there, and I take nothing at face value unless, I have some type of document to back it up. I want to be part of the solution in solving ancestral mysteries, not the problem :) If anything I have here is not correct, please let me know, and I will remove it.
Also, I have a few pictures of Nettie as well as one of her parents. Is there anyone collecting pictures here? Just wondering.
Thanks in advance for reading this and for any help.

Melissa,
I hope this helps you some. The genealogy site on the Daughters of the American Revolution has proof that Elijah Adkins was the son of Parker. However I can’t access it all. DonnGreene also has a book out called Shawnee Heritage I that indicates this relationship. I don’t know where he got his information. As my ggggrandmother was the granddaughter of Elijah,mI would like to have absolute proof. If you find the documentation I hope you will share. Thanks.

DNA RESULTS OF A DIRECT FEMALE DESCENDANT OF CHARITY ADKINS SHOW THAT CHARITY ADKINS’S MOTHER WAS NOT NATIVE-AMERICAN. SHE, THEREFORE, COULD NOT HAVE BEEN DESCENDED FROM BLUE SKY, THE DAUGHTER OF CHIEF CORNSTALK.
Charity’s DNA haplogroup is H. Native American haplogroups are A, B, C, D and X.
H is the most common female haplogroup in Europe. Approximately half of all people with European origin are in haplogroup H.
Mitochondrial DNA passes from mother to daughter to daughter, etc., virtually unchanged so there is no doubt about the result. Charity’s mother had European ancestry, not native-American.
Thanks to Faith Ann Phelps-Richardson who identified a valid direct female descendant of Charity, Lynda Davis-Logan who tracked her down, and Audalene Starr who contributed her DNA, we now know the truth. Almost all of the people who match Audalene have ancestry that originated in England and Ireland.
Although this news will disappoint many of Charity’s descendants, it cannot be denied. All of us should now spread the news so that Charity’s history will be correct. We have to say goodbye to Blue Sky.
Here is the line of descent from Charity (with no break in the female line):
Charity Adkins & Randolph (Randle) Adkins
/
Rhoda Adkins & Merritt Johnson
/
Ancerilda (Serilda) Johnson & Enoch Adkins
/
Betsy Adkins & Calvin Dillon
/
Ella Dillon & Walter Adkins
/
Goldie Adkins & Russell Mays
/
Audalene Mays & Audie Adkins, Jr.

Hi, I am looking at the info about Richard Adkins, Nancy Mirick, and Polly Monroe. You reference that Nancy might have been a Monroe in the notes section. Where is the notes section?
My family: great-granddaughter of Lacy Levi and Louisa (Lowe) Adkins, great-granddaughter of John Stanton Adkins and a choice of his 3 wives which may have been one in the same! I have questions about Parker as well!

Hi,
I am family through Wayne, WV where most of my family lives. Little berry and Little berry Jr. were real people who are my family. My aunt who spoke about our relative Cain Adkins when a statue was erected. A victim of the Hatfield’s during that time in VA and WV’s history. I was born in 1981 and am so grateful for your work. My aunt worked with a historian, being an educator herself and I think you, Brandon and her would be fast friends. Please email me and let’s find out what we can. I was curious and wanted to know how he ended up marrying Blue Sky whose father was Chief Cornstalk of the Shawnee. Fascinating he served in the Revolutionary War. I was curious how they ended up in Virginia. I had no idea about the first Mary and had thought it just the two of them. I do know that Chief Cornstalk was killed outside of Point Pleasant and they say he’s the Mothman to the tourists possibly. I do know that he was the son of a chief and was tragically killed on his way to peace talks.
