both grow cold if left unattended. “Attending” is not something you can do only when you feel like it. A campfire will die down overnight and a marriage ardor will fade if neglected. Do a little something each day to keep your marriage burning bright – something like…

  • Compliment your spouse in front of his or her best friend.
  • Greet each other at the door with a kiss and a hug.
  • Next Valentine’s Day buy an extra bag of small heart-shaped confection candies (with short messages on them) for romantic use throughout the coming year.
  • Use a favorite picture of your loved one as a special bookmark.
  • Remember the nine most important words of any marriage: I love you. You are  beautiful. Please forgive me.
  • Tonight put a love note under your spouse’s pillow.
  • Abandon the things you do to get your own way.
  • Talk to each other and resolve to become  an intent listener.
  • Be aware that needs and desires change from time to time.
  • Don’t just think it – Say it! Each person needs to hear the person they love recognize and praise their good qualities.
  • Respect and love them as they are.
  • Hold hands; it strengthens the bond.
  • Send flowers with a note signed, “Just because…”

Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.   Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. (Philippians 2:2-3)
