I wish I could go to the service...

I'm never too far from the net. This is the world in which we live today. It's what I do and stay pretty busy at it. I was glad to hear from you again. Jack had invited me last year, to the June reunion at Pricey, he gave me directions, I can't remember ever going but I didn't get the date on it. I was going with my uncle Denny but it just didn't work out. Maybe next year; but doubtful. LOL Please send pix, I love pix! Lot's and lot's of pix to vvsfan@msn.com.

Now as for them not being related: Even my uncle Denny said, they had to be. We need some positive direct "male" lineage "Reed's" from our line and one or two from their Reed line to swab their cheeks and send that in for a DNA testing to verify if they are from a common ancestor and if so who? If our John Franklin Reed's people share gene links from Ben's side, then we have a starting place and they are related. And a bonus is that they know where Ben came from. LOL

I've contacted LaFollette and they have no clue as to the Reed families there, so the family must not have stayed. I'm trying to track land ownership to the farm, to see "who" did in fact, live in LaFolette in 1900 as the family claims. But I will keep studying the books and see what I can come up with. It's a great time since North Carolina and Tennessee are releasing more and more data from their records.

I really do believe they are from the same line, so we need to investigate that further. But we need to to find out where John Jr ended up with wife Phoebe Harris Reed and the 5 kids. I've never found one. I thought I had found the Shelton's but nope, wrong family so I'll keep trying and hope others will as well.

We only need one of their grand kids to come forward and say, "We're Here!

Thank you for such a quick response. I didn't anticipate that.

I believe the book is correct in that my family is not related to those Reed's. I know that is what Uncle Jack believed. Whether or not I can't say for sure.

Just to let you know we are planning a trip to the old homeplace on Pricey this weekend June 26-28. We will be having a service at the the Reed Cemetery on Sunday at 10am.

You're absolutely right. I didn't even catch that. I was very sorry to hear about Jack, I missed the funeral. I got the email far too late. I will correct that.

But hey, now that I have your attention, do you have anything more to add here? I have 4 or 5 of the Reed books here in my office, and my dad's extra copy. But there are still a lot of blanks to fill in. I'm working on the Cook side, I guess Havila's wife was a Reed but don't know where she came from or is related to. And one of the books says, that these Reed's aren't related to those Reed's, but they have to be. Any ideas?

The family listed is family of my mother, Ora Mae Reed Bottorff. She is the grand-daughter of Joseph "Joe" Reed born March 27, 1892. I believe the Jack Reed you refer to as the son of Frank Reed is not his son but his nephew. Frank Reed is my great uncle and Jack Reed is uncle.

From a newspaper clipping, The Salyersville Independent, Friday, August 6, 1954.

"LOST" 53 YEARS, CHARLES REED IS VISITING BROTHER
Charles Reed, son of John and Mary Nichols Reed, is visiting his brother, Joe Reed of Cisco. Just a routine "social item". But Charles Reed left Magoffin County 50 years ago, and had not been heard from until just a few months ago, when he wrote his brother for information regarding his family. In that period, he lived in many sections of Kentucky and other states, and finally settled in Oregon, where he now lives at Corvallis. He has three sons and two daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Reed and their oldest daughter came Saturday for a month's visit with relatives."
